Common Backup Terms Explained
backup compression
Question: What is backup compression?
Answer: Compressing backups can often reduce the mount of space required by 50% or more. While tape drives come with built-in compression, CDs, DVDs and other media are uncompressed unless you use a backup program that supports compression. By using compression, you can usually store more than 1 GB on a single CD and more than 10 GB on a DVD.
