Answer: A set of two or more hard drives that are used together to
increase performance and provide fault tolerance. A RAID includes multiple hard
drives and a specialized disk controller than contains the RAID functionality.
The 3 most common RAID levels are 0, 3, and 5. Level 0 provides data striping,
which involves spreading out blocks of each file across multiple disks to
improve performance. Level 3 improves performance and provides some fault
tolerance with data striping and a disk that is reserved for storing error
correction data. Level 5 improves performance and fault tolerance by providing
data striping and stripe error correction information.
